Cupid's calling! Marion County Clerk Beth White will perform civil marriage ceremonies on Valentine's Day as a fundraiser for the American Heart Association. Marriage ceremonies will be conducted on a first-come, first-serve basis from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008 in room W-122 in the City-County Building. In lieu of an officiant's fee, couples are asked to make a $50 contribution to the American Heart Association. Last year's event raised more than $800. In order to be married, an application for a marriage license must be filed at the Marion County Clerk's office before the ceremony. A fee of $18 for Marion County residents or $60 for out-of-state residents must also be paid. Couples are encouraged to apply for their license before Valentine's Day or to arrive when the office opens at 8 a.m. to minimize wait time.
