For a Halloween production for all ages, head to Peewinkle’s Puppet Studio on Oct. 26 for Halloween HiJinx. Enjoy this 45-minute marionette production, perfect for family. Experience a Halloween tradition in Indianapolis at the Annual Haunted House – Eerie Express Oct. 11 – 31 at The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis. For the less scary version, visit during the Friendly Hours. Families can experience this interactive tour through the haunted hotel. Or visit during Frightening Hours for a real scare. Scary snacks and creepy goodies will be available for purchase at the concession stand and the Boo-tique during Haunted House hours. Take out the spook and add laughter this Halloween at A Headless Horseman Unscripted: An Adult Ghost Story at ComedySportz in the Mass Ave Cultural District. Audience participation is necessary as you will be asked to write down quotes, expressions, song lyrics, movies, TV dialogue and more onto small pieces of paper for the ComedySportz performers to recreate a childhood favorite “Mad Libs” inspired act! Join the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians & Western Art Nov. 1 to celebrate Días de los Muertos. The Day of the Dead celebration is a Hispanic memorial holiday that originated hundreds of years ago in Mexico with combined indigenous and European cultural practices. Today, the holiday is celebrated in Mexican and Mexican-American communities including Indianapolis. Visit the President Benjamin Harrison's Home for Victorian Theatre by Candlelight: Cold Blooded at Cold Spring: The Third Trial October 17-18 and 24-26. Jacob and Nancy Young have been murdered and Nancy Clem stands accused. A young city-attorney by the name of Benjamin Harrison is assigned to prosecute Clem, the first woman to be tried for murder in the state of Indiana. The Morris-Butler House Museum will host From Dark Pages: A Progressive Mystery Play Oct. 3, 9-11, 16-18 & 23-25 at 6:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m., 8:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. As far as we know, Edgar Allan Poe, H.G. Wells, Jack the Ripper, Lizzie Borden, Queen Victoria and Arthur Conan Doyle never encountered one another at the Morris-Butler House. That is one reason people have found From Dark Pages such a delightful piece of macabre Victorian fantasy. Almost every Halloween since 1992, the ever-changing progressive mystery play has led audience members upstairs, downstairs and all around the house museum in search of the infamous serial killer Jack the Ripper. Along the way, visitors meet well-known nineteenth-century characters from both life and literature. Cost is $10 per person and reservations are required. Just outside of Downtown, Broad Ripple Village offers some frightening fun. Come celebrate El Dia de Los Muertos/Day of the Dead Fiesta at the Indianapolis Art Center (820 E. 67th St.) on Nov. 1 from 3 – 8 p.m. This FREE event will feature national and local entertainment, an exhibition of altars and outdoor shrines featuring a blend of traditional and contemporary personal reflections by artists and community members, hands-on cultural activities for all ages, works for sale and traditional foods.
