Georgia Street is Downtown Indianapolis’ newest -- and coolest -- gathering place. Now transformed by a $12.5 million upgrade, Georgia Street’s design blends a pedestrian boardwalk, catenary lighting system, landscaping and more. Debuting as the popular Village during Super Bowl XLVI, Georgia Street’s three-block street and walkway connects the Indiana Convention Center, Bankers Life Fieldhouse, Circle Centre mall, a collection of restaurants, residences, hotels and the historic St. John’s Church. Surrounded by the Wholesale District, dining, shopping and entertainment options are plentiful.
IDI Role
The City has engaged Indianapolis Downtown, Inc. (IDI) as the Georgia Street manager. IDI will further develop, manage and market the street to enhance the vitality of adjacent properties and attract and host major special events and gatherings. IDI will activate the street with outdoor cafes, special events and programming and manage day-to-day operations. The City of Indianapolis retains ownership of the street and is a key partner. Generated revenues will be dedicated to Georgia Street operations.
