Enjoy Downtown's free activities and destinations


  1. Browse Indianapolis City Market; visit the Farmer's Market on Wednesdays starting in May, running throughout the summer.
  2. Jog around White River State Park and throughout Downtown.
  3. Take a walk along the 1.5 mile long canal.
  4. Let the scenery surround you! Enjoy your lunch on Monument Circle, the heart of the city.
  5. Visit the Colonel Eli Lilly Civil War Museum in the basement of the Monument.
  6. Wander through one of Indy's six cultural districts, four of which are right Downtown! (Canal and White River State Park, Indiana Avenue, Mass Ave and Wholesale District)
  7. Visit Easley Winery for free wine education and tasting.
  8. Meander through the beautiful outdoor gardens at the Indianapolis Museum of Art.
  9. Sit at the fountain at Pan Am Plaza.
  10. Browse Circle Centre mall.
  11. Go to the top of the Soldiers & Sailors Monument (minimal fee).
  12. Catch a glimpse of the city from the City-County Building.
  13. Learn about and visit all of the city's memorials. Check out the Indiana War Memorial Museum.
  14. Pack a picnic and head to the Lawn at White River State Park. While you're there check out the many sculptures that adorn the area.
  15. Visit the interim Central Library and read a book.
  16. Check out the numerous concerts and performances in the Artsgarden (various days & times).
  17. Listen to an organ concert at Christ Church Cathedral on Fridays at noon.
  18. Visit the National Art Museum of Sport in the University Place Conference Center on the IUPUI campus.
  19. Ride bikes through historic neighborhoods, like Old Northside or Lockerbie Square.
  20. Play Frisbee in one of many Downtown parks, including Military Park and University Park.
  21. Visit the Indiana Historical Society and check out the jukebox.
  22. Watch the Cole Porter Room Film Series at the Indiana Historical Society Thursdays at noon.
  23. Check out the Athenaeum Building, built in 1894. It houses the city's oldest restaurant still in operation today, The Rathskeller.
  24. Visit Circle Centre and take a Historic Facades Walking Tour (minimal fee, appointments needed).
  25. Enjoy Concerts on the Canal at the Indiana Historical Society Thursdays through August from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m.
  26. Play basketball on the IUPUI courts.
  27. Just about everywhere you look Downtown you will find public art embellishing the city.
  28. Be a spectator. Many Downtown events are free and entertaining to watch.
