St. Patrick’s Day is on its way and Irish eyes will be smiling all weekend long! Downtown has numerous celebrations happening, perfect for both young and young-at-heart lads and lassies. March 12 – 15
The Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library will host Irish Melodies with the Lathans, March 12 at 6:30 p.m. Individuals of all ages are invited for a lively performance of traditional Irish ballads and toe-tapping tunes. Don and Alberta Lathan play a mix of acoustic Irish music on flute, whistle, banjo, guitar and bodhran. The program will be presented in the atrium.

ComedySportz will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day March 13, 14 & 15 with special themed improv teams and games. Any adults wearing green will receive $3 off admission. The 17th Annual Shamrock Run and Walk will take place on Saturday, March 15 at 9 a.m. The 5K Walk kicks off at 9:15 a.m. Pre-registration will be available for $20 through March 12 at www.indystpats.com or by calling 884.EVENTS (3836). Tickets will be sold for $25 after March 12. The event will feature a new course starting at Monument Circle and includes sights such as Fountain Square’s Irish Hill, the Wholesale District, the Slippery Noodle, University Park and many more. The post-race party will take place at the Columbia Club and includes live Irish entertainment, prizes and a rest and recovery area with refreshments.

March 17
Downtown comes alive with the sights and sounds of shamrocks, leprechauns and all that is green this St. Patrick’s Day! The celebration starts at 6:30 a.m. when Mayor Greg Ballard dyes the Downtown Canal green for the holiday. There will be live entertainment, food and prizes. Boomer, the Pacers mascot, will be at the Canal giving five gold jerseys and five gold t-shirts away. Parking is available on Ohio Street. The 28th Annual St. Patrick’s Day parade presented by Cathedral High School will follow at 11:30 a.m. The parade’s 100 units include marching bands, clubs, professional sports teams, numerous floats, local celebrities and many local Irish influences. Employees of City Securities Corp., a sponsor of the parade, will ride a float and pass out candy to onlookers. After the parade, don’t miss the St. Patrick’s Day Tent Party honoring the Irish Citizen of the Year, Robert William Sullivan. The tent party is located on Vermont Street between Meridian and Pennsylvania streets and is open to the public. Enjoy a food court, beer garden and live entertainment. Rathskeller restaurant rocks
The Rathskeller will play host to the 12th Annual Indianapolis Downtown Irish Fest featuring entertainment from Brian Cunningham & the Irish Aires followed by the Irish Dancers of Indianapolis taking the crowd into happy hour. BadaBoomz Ale House & Grill is offering corned beef and cabbage dinners all day for $7. Drink specials include Guinness, O’Hara’s Red Ale and Jameson. Jillian’s will host a St. Patrick’s Day party including green and white beads and hats for guests to wear. The restaurant will be decorated in green and white balloons and shamrocks. Jillian’s will be hosting their first annual “Luck of the Irish” billiards tournament as well.

If you’re looking for something different head on over to Andrus O’Reilly’s. They will have an authentic Irish menu all day along, drink specials and their first annual mustache contest. They will also have a radio show live from the bar featuring Bob Kravits and the Pacemates from 5 – 7 p.m. with free Pacer ticket give-aways throughout the radio show.

Catch your Indiana Pacers in action at Conseco Fieldhouse March 17 versus the New York Knicks. Michael McCrackin, The Indianapolis Official Leprechaun, will meet and greet the fans as they enter the game. The first 5,000 people over the age of 18 will receive a scratch-off ticket from the Hoosier Lottery. Also, shamrock coupons will be given away to a special section which can be redeemed for 10 scratch-off tickets. Levy Restaurants will be offering a special menu including corned beef and cabbage, rye breads, cold sauerkraut slaw and mustard in the suites. Irish Table in the Varsity Club will include three Irish-themed salads, carved corn beef brisket, braised cabbage, potatoes, carrots, Irish stew and more. Legends will feature Irish nachos, mini Reubens, mini turkey Reubens, corn beef and cabbage and more. The Best Locker room will have corn beef sandwiches, rye bread, Irish potatoes salad, kettle chips and sauerkraut and mustard. Aramark will offer Irish nachos at select concession stands.
