April showers bring May flowers!
It’s time for summer flowers. Beginning in mid-May, summer flowers will be planted Downtown in 191 planters. Annuals in shades of pink, yellow, blue and purple will energize our visitors. The floral palette will include: fanfare impatiens, hot pink celosia, blazin rose iresine, coleus, bubblegum wave petunias, elephant ears and sunshine blue caryopteris.

Downtown development continues
Check out the 88 projects worth nearly $3.2 billion in Downtown’s pipeline: www.indydt.com/projects.html. Projects set to open yet this year include IU Simon Cancer Center, Lucas Oil Stadium, WFYI TelePlex Headquarters, Broadbent Building, Comfort Suites and numerous residential projects including Chapel Townhomes, the DeSoto, the Waterstone and Meridian Arch Condominiums.

Race Into May
Get ready to run! May 2 is Major Taylor Fitness Fest at the Indiana State Museum. Test your skills and learn some new ones. May 3 marks the running of the OneAmerica 500 Festival Mini-Marathon. Come Downtown and line the streets to cheer on those participating in the 13.1 mile race! Also check out the Wellness Walk at Military Park May 17.

Ask anyone and they will tell you that nothing says Indianapolis like racing. The 92nd running of the Indianapolis 500, the largest, single-day sporting event in the world, will take place May 25. Before the race, enjoy Downtown festivities. The Chase 500 Festival Kids’ Day & Rookie Run happens May 18 on Monument Circle. Other 500 Festival events include the 500 Festival Memorial Service May 23 and the IPL 500 Festival Parade May 24.

The art community is blooming!
The art community is overflowing with ways to entertain you this month. Head to the Indianapolis Museum of Art and enjoy Simply Halston and On Procession. Michel Tcherevkoff’s “Shoe Fleur: A footwear fantasy” Opens May 2 at the Dean Johnson Design and Gallery. If you enjoy art on the move, head to Massachusetts Avenue! The Mass Ave Spring Gallery Walk will take place May 2. For something a little more interactive, attend the Comic Drawing Workshop at the Indianapolis-Marion County public library May 4.

Family Fun
If you’re looking for fun the whole family can enjoy, head down to The Children’s Museum May 1 for Target’s Free Family Night! Be sure to come back May 17 for Playfit where you can lean about exercise in a child-friendly environment.

Learn about Indy’s six Cultural Districts, area attractions, restaurants, festivals and more at the Indy Hometown Expo on Monument Circle May 13.

The Indianapolis Zoo opens Koalas presented by Citizens Gas May 24. This very special, limited-time exhibit runs through Sept. 1 featuring two Queensland koalas, native to Australia and on loan from the San Diego Zoo.

Celebrate Mother’s Day with a Mother’s Day Tea May 10 at the Morris-Butler House Museum. The Indianapolis Propylaeum will be serving a Mother’s Day Buffet May 11. If you prefer the outdoors, enjoy an Indian’s game at Victory Field with the whole family May 9 – 16, 20, 21, 30 & 31.

Broad Ripple Village Cultural District
May 9 is the Broad Ripple Village Spring Gallery Tour. Come see all that Broad Ripple has to offer and then visit again May 17 and 18 for the 38th Annual Broad Ripple Art Fair.
